NDIS Plan Management is a service that helps participants manage the funding in their NDIS plan. A Plan Manager takes care of tasks such as paying invoices, tracking spending, and maintaining financial records. It offers a balance between flexibility and support by allowing you to access both registered and unregistered providers without the need to handle all the paperwork yourself.
No, there is no extra out of pocket cost to you for using a Plan Manager. The NDIS provides additional funding specifically for plan management under the budget category called “Improved Life Choices”. This funding is separate and does not affect your other supports or services.
Yes, you have complete choice and control over which Plan Manager you use, as long as they are registered with the NDIS. You can also change Plan Managers at any time if you're not satisfied with the service, simply by notifying your current Plan Manager and contacting the NDIA.
If your plan is Plan-Managed, a professional Plan Manager takes care of paying providers and managing your budget. If your plan is Self-Managed, you take full responsibility for payments, budgeting, and record-keeping. If your plan is NDIA-Managed (also called Agency-Managed), the NDIA pays providers directly, but you can only use NDIS-registered providers. Plan Management offers the best of both worlds – professional help with financial tasks while still allowing more freedom of choice.
Yes, you can request to switch to Plan Management at any time. This can be done during a scheduled plan review, or you can request a "light touch" review if you don't want to wait. Speak with your NDIS planner or Local Area Coordinator to update your plan and include Plan Management.
A Plan Manager is responsible for processing invoices, tracking your spending, and providing you with regular budget updates. However, they do not help you choose your supports or coordinate your services, that’s the role of a Support Coordinator. Plan Managers also do not make decisions about what can or can’t be funded; they simply ensure services are paid for within the boundaries of your approved plan.
You can search for Plan Managers using the NDIS Provider Finder tool, or ask your Support Coordinator, Local Area Coordinator, or other NDIS participants for recommendations. When choosing a Plan Manager, it’s important to look for someone who communicates clearly, provides easy-to-understand budget reports, and offers strong customer support
Absolutely. One of the key benefits of Plan Management is that you can choose to use either registered or unregistered providers, giving you more flexibility than NDIA-managed plans. Your Plan Manager will simply ensure invoices are paid correctly and promptly, regardless of the provider's registration status.
