What is NDIS Psychology?

NDIS Psychology is a specialised service that provides assessment, therapy, and support to help participants manage the psychological aspects of their disability. This includes addressing mental health conditions, emotional regulation, challenging behaviours, social skills, and trauma. Our psychologists use evidence-based therapies to build resilience, improve daily functioning, and enhance overall quality of life, aligning all interventions with your personal NDIS goals.

  • Psychological Assessment & Diagnosis

A comprehensive evaluation to understand a participant's cognitive, emotional, and behavioural functioning. This helps in formulating a diagnosis (where appropriate) and creating a tailored treatment plan.

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

A structured, evidence-based therapy that helps participants identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviours that contribute to emotional distress and functional challenges.

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

A mindfulness-based therapy that teaches skills to accept difficult thoughts and feelings while committing to actions that align with personal values and goals

  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

Therapy focused on teaching core skills in mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness, particularly helpful for managing intense emotions.

  • Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)

A proactive approach to understanding the reasons behind challenging behaviours and developing strategies to teach new skills and create environments that reduce behaviours of concern

  • Trauma-Informed Therapy & Counselling

Specialist therapy that provides a safe space to process traumatic experiences and develop healthy coping mechanisms, using approaches like Trauma-Focused CBT.

  • Social Skills & Emotional Literacy Training

Structured training to help participants recognise and understand emotions in themselves and others, develop empathy, and navigate social situations more effectively.

  • Anxiety & Mood Disorder Management

Therapeutic support for managing conditions like depression, generalised anxiety, social anxiety, and phobias to improve daily functioning and participation.

  • Anger Management Therapy

Strategies and techniques to understand triggers, recognise early warning signs of anger, and develop healthy ways to express and manage frustration.

  • In-Home & Community-Based Therapy

Psychological sessions conducted in the participant's home or community to address issues in a real-world context, ensuring practical application of skills.

No, psychologists in Australia cannot prescribe medication. That is the role of a psychiatrist (a medical doctor specialising in mental health) or a GP. Psychologists provide therapy and behavioural interventions. We often work collaboratively with prescribers to ensure holistic care.

PBS is a evidence-based framework for understanding the reasons behind challenging behaviours (e.g., communication, escape, sensory needs) and developing proactive strategies to teach new skills and improve quality of life. A dedicated PBS Practitioner (often a psychologist) develops a formal PBS Plan, which may require specific funding in your NDIS plan.
