Respite Care is the general term for temporary care that gives a break to a participant and their carer. Short Term Accommodation (STA) is the specific NDIS funding line item that includes respite care, often provided away from home in a dedicated setting, and covers accommodation, personal care, food, and activities.

The NDIS does not set a standard amount. The funding for respite (STA) in your plan is based on what is considered "reasonable and necessary" for your specific situation. This is assessed based on your needs and the needs of your primary carer to ensure their well-being and your continued support.

Yes. While STA often involves a stay away from home, respite support can also be provided in your own home. This is typically funded under Core Supports - Assistance with Daily Life, where a support worker takes over the caring role for a set period, allowing your primary carer to take a break.

Activities are always based on the participant's interests and goals! This can include community outings (cinema, cafes, parks), creative activities at home, skill-building, social visits, or simply enjoying companionship. We create a personalised plan with you.

We recommend booking as far in advance as possible, especially for popular periods like school holidays, to secure your preferred dates. However, we understand that emergencies happen, so please contact us to discuss last-minute availability.

Yes, you can use your Core Supports - Assistance with Daily Life budget to pay for a support worker to provide care in your home, giving your informal carer a break. For a full STA experience including accommodation, you would use the allocated Short Term Accommodation funding in your Capacity Building budget.
