Sydney man charged for alleged role in $1.8 million NDIS fraud
Authorities charged a 36-year-old Sydney man following a joint fraud investigation. They allege a registered provider submitted about $1.89 million in invoices for services not delivered between March 2020 and January 2024. The announcement describes criminal charges and earlier banning action; the allegations remain subject to court proceedings.
NDIS participant and provider portals, the my NDIS App and several connected provider systems have a planned seven-hour outage. Maintenance is scheduled from 11:30 pm AEDT on 10 October 2026 until 6:30 am AEDT on 11 October 2026. Systems may return sooner if the technical work allows.
Trusted local NDIS support expands across remote Australia
Remote Community Connectors will reach more than 500 communities, with additional coverage in 17 Northern Territory, eight Far North Queensland and four NSW communities. Nine further Remote Access Clinics will provide face-to-face access assistance. These initiatives focus on culturally safe, locally supported access for First Nations people with disability.
Provider Quarterly Report - Youth Employment now available
The NDIA’s January–December 2025 report examines employment assistance for 9,215 participants aged 15 to 24, including school leavers and students preparing for work. It records 588 participants entering paid employment and discusses training, work experience and employer engagement associated with stronger employment outcomes.
From 15 October 2026, claims lodged more than 90 days after support delivery will receive additional integrity checks. They may be held for up to 28 days while evidence is assessed. Claims lodged within 90 days will follow the usual process, and rejected claims will receive an explanation.
Reductions affect some Social, Economic and Community Participation and Improved Daily Living Skills budgets when plans are created or reassessed from 1 October 2026, or renewed from 1 February 2027. Effects depend on individual circumstances. Exempt supports include employment, disability-related health and high intensity supports; the announcement lists further exclusions.
Updated Supported Independent Living operational guideline
The NDIA has revised its Supported Independent Living guideline to explain how decisions are made and which information is considered. Updates address arrangements that fall outside SIL, criteria for individual support over 24 hours, and mandatory provider registration. The announcement links to the full operational guidance.
Thriving Kids information services have launched, including an autism helpline on 1300 654 789 and a Raising Children Network resource hub. Supports will roll out gradually through 1 January 2028 for children aged eight and under with developmental delay and/or autism and low to moderate support needs. NDIS access and eligibility remain unchanged until that date.
This dated maintenance notice announced a six-hour outage affecting the myplace participant and provider portals. The scheduled window was midnight to 6:00 am AEST on 1 October 2026. It is retained as an earlier official announcement; its stated maintenance window has now passed.
Your feedback is helping shape the new way of planning
Participant testing is informing the planning approach scheduled to begin in April 2027. Feedback includes positive experiences of being heard, alongside requests for clearer preparation, more time and adjustments during assessments. The NDIA describes new explanatory resources and further work to clarify what happens during and after testing.
The first ministerial pricing determination sets 2026–27 limits in line with the NDIA’s earlier guidance and takes immediate effect. Differentiated pricing for registered and unregistered providers remains under consultation; a 1 January 2027 start was recommended by the pricing review, rather than confirmed in this announcement.
The government reports $2.1 billion in savings and benefits from integrity interventions between November 2022 and June 2026: $1.2 billion in payments prevented and $900 million redirected towards legitimate supports. It forecasts another $2 billion by June 2029 and outlines strengthened claim checks and the Integrity Portal.
An earlier notice scheduled maintenance for NDIS portals, the app and connected provider, registration and developer systems. Participants, providers and the disability community can contribute to the 2027–28 Annual Pricing Review until 1 November 2026. Consultation considers access, quality, participant outcomes and provider viability, with particular attention to support workers, SIL, therapy, community participation and support coordination. Self-Management Advisory Group meeting summary September 2026
The group discussed NDIS reforms and clearer guidance on spending, records and claiming. Members requested practical examples, clearer rejection explanations and distinctions between self-managed and plan-managed information. The summary notes a three-year record-keeping requirement for self-managers and says automated decision-making had not yet been introduced at the time discussed.
Public NDIS data has been refreshed to reflect the position at 30 June 2026. Updated datasets, quarterly supplements, SDA demand information and participant dashboards cover areas such as participant numbers, budgets, providers and plan use. Pair jailed as NDIS integrity systems protect participants
The government reported two NDIS-related prison sentences: seven years and six months for a Sydney woman convicted of fraud and money laundering involving more than $2.2 million, and four years for a Sydney man involved in a syndicate. The announcement also describes asset restraint and participant funding protections.
A Chester Hill man received a four-year prison sentence on 7 September 2026 for his role in fraud against the NDIS and ATO, with a $30,675 repayment order. His sentencing concluded the six-offender Operation Pegasus case. The NDIA announcement describes associated asset seizures and continuing proceeds-of-crime proceedings.
NDIS reform: Have your say on NDIS support coordination and connection service
A consultation sought views on the proposed support coordination and connection service announced for 1 July 2028. It covered service design, quality and safeguarding, with feedback intended to inform the government’s final decisions. The stated consultation deadline was 11:59 pm AEST on 2 October 2026 and has now passed.
This earlier announcement scheduled a two-hour outage for the my NDIS App, my NDIS participant portal, myplace participant portal and Integrity Portal. Maintenance was planned for 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm AEST on 3 September 2026. The dated notice is historical and does not describe an upcoming outage.
Cultural and Linguistic Diversity Expert Advisory Group meeting summary September 2026
The advisory group discussed planning tests, multicultural community engagement and the CALD Strategy annual report. Members emphasised choice, accessible language, advocacy and a mix of face-to-face and online testing. They also requested clearer implementation priorities and measures for engagement. The next meeting was scheduled for 24 November 2026.

Victorian man arrested following alleged $700K NDIS fraud
A joint NDIA and Victoria Police investigation led to the arrest of a 48-year-old man in the Horsham area. Investigators allege about $700,000 was obtained from his own NDIS plan between 28 June 2024 and 30 June 2026 using false invoices. The announcement reports allegations, rather than a conviction.
