What is an NDIS Continence Assessment?

An NDIS Continence Assessment is a detailed evaluation conducted by a qualified Continence Nurse or Physiotherapist to understand and address bladder and/or bowel control issues related to your disability. This assessment goes beyond simple product selection; it aims to identify the root cause of incontinence, develop a proactive management strategy, and recommend the most suitable products, techniques, and therapies to promote dignity, independence, and skin health.

Our Assessment Process

Step 1: Initial Enquiry & Information Gathering

We start with a confidential discussion to understand your specific challenges, daily routine, medical history, and NDIS goals. This helps us tailor the assessment to your unique situation.

Step 2: Comprehensive Clinical Assessment

Our specialist conducts a holistic assessment, which may include a bladder diary review, physical assessment, discussion of diet and fluid intake, and evaluation of your current management strategies and their effectiveness.

Step 3: Detailed Report & Recommendations

You receive a comprehensive report with clear findings and evidence-based recommendations. This may include a management plan, specific product recommendations (pads, sheaths, catheters), and therapeutic strategies like bladder retraining.

Step 4: Implementation of the Plan

We support you in implementing the plan. This includes helping you source the right continence aids through your NDIS funding and providing essential education to you and your support team on the new management strategy.

Step 5: Ongoing Monitoring & Review

We schedule follow-ups to monitor your progress, assess the effectiveness of the plan, and make any necessary adjustments. Our goal is your long-term success and comfort.

What is included in an NDIS continence assessment?

The assessment includes a review of your medical history, a bladder and/or bowel diary analysis, a physical examination (if appropriate), discussion of lifestyle factors, and evaluation of your current products. The outcome is a personalised management plan.

Who is eligible for an NDIS continence assessment?

Any NDIS participant whose disability directly impacts their bladder or bowel control is eligible. This is considered a "reasonable and necessary" support and is typically funded under the Capacity Building - Improved Health and Wellbeing budget.

Who performs the assessment?

Our assessments are conducted by expert Continence Nurse Advisors or Physiotherapists who specialise in continence care for people with disabilities.

Do I need a referral from my GP?

While a GP referral can be helpful, it is not mandatory to access this service through your NDIS plan. You can book directly with us.

 What will the assessment recommend?

Recommendations are personalised but may include specific types and sizes of continence products (pads, pants, catheters), toileting schedules, pelvic floor exercises, dietary advice, or bladder retraining techniques.

How often do I need a reassessment?

We recommend an annual review to ensure your plan remains effective. Your needs may change over time due to changes in your disability, health, or lifestyle. Reassessment ensures your funding and products continue to meet your needs.

Can the assessment help with bowel incontinence as well?

Absolutely. Our assessments are comprehensive and cover both bladder and bowel incontinence. We develop holistic management plans that address all your continence needs.

How do I book an assessment with Beyond Health Services?

Booking is simple. Click the "Book Now" button on this page or call us directly. We will discuss your needs, help you check your NDIS funding, and schedule your assessment at a time that suits you.

What Families Have to Say

"My support worker, Sarah, has been an absolute lifesaver. She helps with my daily routine, from meal prep to getting to appointments on time, and even takes me on short walks to the park. Sarah is patient and really listens to what I need. I’m so grateful for the support she provides – I feel more confident knowing she’s there."
Emily T, Brunswick, Melbourne
"We hired a gardener from Beyond Health Services, and Jason has completely transformed our backyard. He removed the weeds, trimmed the hedges, and even installed a vegetable garden that my wife and I have been enjoying. The space looks so much better, and we couldn’t be happier with his attention to detail."
Jason M, St Albans, Melbourne
"The cleaning service from Beyond continues to impress us. Every corner of our home gets attention – they even scrubbed out stains from the carpets that we thought would never come out. I always look forward to coming home to a fresh, spotless house after their visit. Their reliability is what sets them apart."
Sophia R, Sunshine West, Melbourne
"I’m so grateful for Liam, the driver who takes my father to his medical appointments. Liam is always on time, helps my dad in and out of the car, and even waits with him at the doctor’s office. It’s reassuring to know my dad is in such capable hands when I can’t be there myself."
Adam G, Windsor, Melbourne
"These guys sent over a fantastic speech therapist to help my son with his communication challenges. Kate was incredibly patient, using fun and interactive techniques to get him to open up. In just a few weeks, we’ve seen a noticeable improvement in his speech, and he’s more confident in expressing himself. We’re so thankful for Kate’s expertise and warmth."
