Yes, the NDIS may fund personal training or exercise-related support if it's related to your disability and considered reasonable and necessary. Typically, funding is more likely for exercise physiology or personal training delivered by an allied health professional, especially when it helps improve functional capacity, mobility, strength, or overall wellbeing.

An Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP) is a university-qualified allied health professional trained to support people with chronic conditions, disabilities, or functional limitations.

A Personal Trainer, while qualified in fitness, is not usually funded unless working under supervision of a therapist or in a program aligned with therapy goals. NDIS usually prioritises AEPs when the goals are clinical or health-related.

Exercise Physiology can help improve your strength, endurance, balance, mobility, and reduce the risk of falls or injury. It also supports managing conditions such as cerebral palsy, autism, muscular dystrophy, or neurological conditions. Sessions are often tailored to individual NDIS goals.

No, you don’t need a referral. However, supporting documentation (like a letter or report from your GP, therapist, or allied health provider) can help justify the inclusion of exercise physiology in your plan during a planning meeting or review.

Exercise Physiology is usually funded under the Capacity Building – Improved Daily Living budget, as it focuses on building long-term functional independence. In some specific cases, supports that resemble physical activity may be claimed under Core, but this depends on the goals and plan wording.

Check your NDIS plan under the Capacity Building budget for line items such as “Improved Daily Living Skills” or “Assessment, Training or Therapy”. Your Support Coordinator or Plan Manager can also assist in reviewing your budget for available funding.

Yes, if it's part of a therapy program delivered or prescribed by an Exercise Physiologist, your sessions may take place in a gym or community setting. Some providers include gym fees in their charges, while others may request an additional, separate gym membership.

You can find NDIS-registered providers through the NDIS Provider Finder, or ask your Support Coordinator or Local Area Coordinator. You can also choose a non-registered provider if your plan is self-managed or plan-managed, giving you more flexibility in who you work with.

At Beyond Health Services, we offer both Exercise Physiology and Personal Training supports tailored to your NDIS goals. Whether you're looking to build strength, improve mobility, or stay active with safe and supportive guidance, our team is here to help.
