Suburbs Where Our NDIS Disability Support Workers Are Available
An NDIS support worker provides hands-on assistance to help you achieve the goals in your NDIS plan. Their specific tasks are tailored to your needs but commonly include:
Personal Care: Assistance with showering, dressing, grooming, and medication management.
Daily Living: Help with meal preparation, light housekeeping, and shopping.
Community Access: Supporting you to attend appointments, go shopping, visit friends, or participate in social and recreational activities.
Skill Development: Working with you to build confidence and skills for greater independence, such as using public transport or budgeting.
Essentially, they do whatever is outlined as a "reasonable and necessary" support in your plan to help you live more independently.
To get a support worker, you need to have funding for them in your NDIS plan. This funding is typically under categories like "Core Supports - Assistance with Daily Life" or "Capacity Building - Increased Social and Community Participation." Once you have your plan:
- Find a Provider: Choose a registered provider like Beyond Health Services.
- Service Agreement: We will work with you to create a Service Agreement that outlines the support, costs, and schedules.
- Matching: We match you with a suitable support worker.
- Start Support: Your support begins. You are always in control and can change the schedule or worker if needed.
Yes, absolutely. The NDIS is built on participant choice and control. With Beyond Health Services, you have a direct say in who supports you. We use a careful matching process based on your personality, interests, and support needs, and we encourage an introductory meeting to ensure you are comfortable and happy with the match before starting.
This is an important distinction.
- A Disability Support Worker focuses on assisting with daily living activities, community access, and skill-building to promote independence. They do not perform complex medical procedures.
- A Nurse (e.g., an RN or EN) provides clinical care, such as wound dressing, catheter care, injections, and complex health monitoring.
If your plan includes both types of support, a support worker can assist with general well-being and routine tasks, while a nurse would handle specific clinical needs.
Yes, but there are specific rules. A support worker can assist you with transport that is directly related to achieving your goals. For example:
Transport to a medical appointment.
Transport to go shopping for groceries.
Transport to attend a community group or social event.
This is usually funded under the "Assistance with Social and Community Participation" budget. The support worker can use their own insured vehicle (with a km charge) or accompany you on public transport.
At Beyond Health Services, we plan for this. We strive to provide you with a consistent primary support worker. However, if they are unavailable, we have a team of qualified back-up workers. We will always contact you in advance to arrange a suitable replacement, providing you with their profile so you know who to expect, ensuring your support continues uninterrupted.
The NDIS sets maximum price limits for support worker services, which are outlined in the NDIS Price Guide. The cost depends on the type of support (e.g., standard weekday rate, weekend rate, evening rate) and whether it is provided one-on-one or in a group. The important thing to know is that as a registered provider, our rates are always within the NDIS price limits. We are completely transparent with our pricing and will explain all costs in your Service Agreement.
NDIS Disability Support Workers are typically required to have a Certificate III or IV in Individual Support or Disability. Additionally, they must undergo background checks, including a National Police Check and a Working with Children Check, to ensure safety and compliance with NDIS standards.
