NDIS Funding Guide • 2026–27 support and claiming guidance

An NDIS support item code describes a particular service and claiming purpose. The complete code, official item name, unit, applicable geography and the participant's support budget all matter. Similar prices do not mean different codes can be substituted.

The short answer

An NDIS support item code describes a particular service and claiming purpose. The complete code, official item name, unit, applicable geography and the participant's support budget all matter. Similar prices do not mean different codes can be substituted.

Read the full item description, not only the dollar amount

A code such as 15_617_0128_1_3 identifies an occupational therapy direct service in the schedule. Adding _PT produces its separate provider-travel time item, not an extra therapy appointment. A different prefix or registration group can change the nature of the support even if the hourly maximum happens to be identical.

Use the NDIS 2026–27 Support Catalogue to match the full description, relevant support category, claim type and other flags. Never infer a missing code by altering digits without checking the catalogue.

Table: five billing units used in the schedule

Unit How the schedule defines it Simple example
Hour Actual eligible minutes as a fraction of the hourly maximum. 30 minutes at $100/hour = $50.
Day Daily maximum for one calendar date; fractions may apply to partial days. MTA 01_082_0115_1_1 $162.85/day nationally.
Month Calendar month amount; fractions may apply for parts of a month. Plan management 14_034_0127_8_3 $104.45/month.
Year Annual amount; fractions may apply for parts of a year. Use if the item's official unit is Year.
Each Per whole defined instance/item; fractional quantities not used. Self-care sleepover 01_010_0107_1_1 $311.79 each nationally.

Why are the same dollar limits repeated under different codes?

The schedule contains multiple OT codes with the same national direct hourly maximum because they relate to different support or funding purposes. Group activities and self-care support may share the same ordinary weekday hourly maximum, but the work is different. Choose the code that most accurately represents the support actually received, not the one the provider finds easiest to claim or the category with the most unused funds.

How do suffixes affect reporting and travel?

In many professional therapy tables, _CA identifies a cancellation, _NF non-face-to-face work, _PT provider travel, _RR NDIA-requested reports and _TH telehealth. Each suffix has a separate purpose and, where listed, its own rate; the appropriate claim is also subject to current conditions and a valid participant-related activity.

Where the PDF shows an unusual printed suffix such as a trailing footnote digit, verify the exact code in the official catalogue rather than editing the code based on assumption.

Invoice walkthrough: two code lines with different purposes

An eligible OT attends for one hour and completes separately claimable 20 minutes of provider travel time. The direct item 15_617_0128_1_3 has a national maximum of $193.99/hour. The provider-travel time item 15_617_0128_1_3_PT is $97.00/hour, giving a 20-minute mathematical amount of $32.33. These are not two identical hourly services. Eligibility of travel must be checked independently, and vehicle expenses are not included in the travel-time hourly item.

Common questions

Can I charge this just because a code appears in the schedule?

No. The support must meet the participant's disability-related need, applicable funding rules and the permitted claim type. The schedule tells you the price limits, not whether this individual participant can claim every listed item.

Are 2026–27 prices fixed for the whole year?

The schedule is effective 24 September 2026 but may be amended. Check the latest official version and the new claiming documents as they are published.
