The short answer

Nursing services have different evening and night-time definitions from standard disability support worker shifts. For nursing, weekday daytime ends at 6 pm; qualifying same-day evening supports finish after 6 pm, and overnight nursing is separately defined.

Nursing clock-time boundaries: a detailed comparison

Nursing item 2026–27 definition in Part 4 Example
Weekday daytime Starts at or after 6 am, ends at or before 6 pm on one weekday. RN visit 10–11 am, Tuesday.
Weekday evening Begins no earlier than noon and finishes after 6 pm on the same weekday. RN visit 5–6:30 pm, Tuesday.
Weekday night Begins on or after 6 pm, finishes before 7:30 am the following day, subject to weekend/holiday exceptions. RN shift 11 pm Tuesday–6 am Wednesday.

The way a shift ends matters as well as when it starts. A 4–7 pm nursing appointment can meet the evening definition even though it commenced before 6 pm. This differs from non-nursing evening support, which begins at or after 8 pm.

The table uses the national column of Appendix 3 and prices per hour. Separate 01_ and 15_ item variants are available for different support categories. The relevant nurse-level article gives exact codes and remote/very remote columns.

Choose the nursing level based on actual practitioner credentials and work

The Enrolled Nurse classification requires Australian nursing registration and direct or indirect RN supervision. A Registered Nurse must have current Australian registration. The Clinical Nurse and CNC pricing families are based on more experienced roles under the Nurses Award, while a Nurse Practitioner must hold the additional legally recognised endorsement. Employing an RN who previously held a senior title does not automatically justify billing every service at a CNC rate.

Funded NDIS nursing in Appendix 3 addresses disability-related health needs where the care is not ordinarily the responsibility of the general health system. It is not an unrestricted route to bill Medicare or hospital-type interventions.

Worked example: an RN visit finishing after 6 pm

An RN attends a participant at 5 pm on an ordinary Tuesday and finishes at 6:30 pm. If this meets the nursing evening definition, the national RN evening item 01_607_0114_1_1 has a maximum of $141.27 per hour. Ninety minutes at that maximum corresponds to $211.91 rounded to the nearest cent. This illustration assumes that the visit is a genuinely NDIS-funded RN nursing service, not a general health treatment or an ordinary support worker shift.

How to document safely

Record the disability-related clinical purpose, nursing scope of practice, the practitioner's registration and classification, participant location, exact start/finish times, the reason the level of expertise was required, clinical findings and care delivered. Separately explain any eligible report, travel or incidental cost, and check the applicable current claiming directions.

Common questions

Does appearing in the price schedule mean every participant can claim it?

No. A support must match the participant's funded disability-related needs, plan and the current claims requirements. A rate is not blanket permission to bill.

Do these 2026–27 rates and examples last until June 2027?

Not necessarily. The pricing determination and schedules may be amended. Check the latest dated version and any newer guidance before relying on an item.
