The short answer

The 2026–27 Pricing Schedule's maximum amounts expressly apply where supports are plan-managed or NDIA-managed. The distinction matters for the use of price limits, claiming and who may provide the service.

How do the three arrangements differ?

Management arrangement Who handles payments? What this price schedule directly says
NDIA-managed The NDIA pays eligible claims through its provider systems. The listed maximum amounts apply.
Plan-managed A registered plan manager processes eligible invoices and records. The listed maximum amounts apply.
Self-managed Participant or nominee purchases and manages eligible supports. The schedule's general maximum-amount clause does not expressly extend its caps to self-managed support purchases.

Is being self-managed permission to buy anything?

No. Self-management can allow more flexibility, but NDIS funds must still be used for supports permitted under the participant's plan and the applicable NDIS rules. It is not permission to pay for unrelated household expenditure, duplicate claims, unsupported services or costs that other systems are responsible for.

Likewise, plan-managed funding may permit eligible purchases from appropriately qualified unregistered providers for some types of supports, subject to all applicable registration, provider and clinical requirements. A plan manager's involvement does not override mandatory registration rules.

How should a participant compare provider quotes?

Ask the provider for the precise NDIS support item, proposed agreed rate, expected number of units, any travel time, non-labour expenses, cancellation conditions and who will actually deliver the service. For NDIA-managed and plan-managed services, compare the proposed rate with the correct 2026–27 national/remote/very remote maximum. If a provider's quote is higher than the relevant limit, ask why before agreeing.

Examples of appropriate price discussions

A plan-managed participant requiring ordinary weekday personal care is offered $73.58/hour, matching the national maximum for 01_011_0107_1_1. They can negotiate a lower rate, but the published cap limits the plan-funded amount. Another participant receives eligible OT at $185/hour instead of the maximum $193.99; the provider may agree to that lower fee. When comparing offers, consider quality, qualified personnel, flexibility and travel costs rather than just the headline hourly rate.

How do invoices reach the plan manager?

The invoice should itemise the delivered service, item number, agreed rate and units, participant details, actual date of service and any separate eligible charge. The participant or nominee should have a way to query discrepancies and should be able to understand how much of the relevant budget remains. Plan management itself has a separately priced monthly item in Appendix 7.

Common questions

Can I charge this just because a code appears in the schedule?

No. The support must meet the participant's disability-related need, applicable funding rules and the permitted claim type. The schedule tells you the price limits, not whether this individual participant can claim every listed item.

Are 2026–27 prices fixed for the whole year?

The schedule is effective 24 September 2026 but may be amended. Check the latest official version and the new claiming documents as they are published.
