The short answer

Short Term Accommodation (STA), Medium Term Accommodation (MTA) and Supported Independent Living (SIL) are different types of support. The September 2026 schedule prices their components separately and should not be read as a universal daily respite package.

What is the purpose of each arrangement?

Support Purpose according to the schedule Duration or unit
Short Term Accommodation Time apart for participants and primary informal supports to sustain informal care arrangements. Up to 14 days; eligible labour and accommodation separately priced.
Medium Term Accommodation Transitional accommodation while moving towards a longer-term home or arrangement. Generally up to 90 days; accommodation per day, support worker labour separate.
Supported Independent Living Support with everyday living in suitable shared or individual living arrangements. Relevant hourly service and/or sleepover items, according to support needs.

STA prices: accommodation is not automatically the same as support hours

Table 8 lists 01_250_0115_1_1 for a participant's standard accommodation at $162.85 per day nationally and 01_251_0115_1_1 for support worker accommodation at the same daily maximum. Table 7 separately lists labour such as 01_200_0115_1_1 weekday daytime standard STA worker support at $73.58/hour nationally. The flat accommodation amount covers standard accommodation with no additional inclusions; worker labour must reflect services actually delivered.

MTA prices and an example of a valid transition

Table 9 lists 01_082_0115_1_1, medium term accommodation, at $162.85 per day nationally ($227.99 remote; $244.28 very remote). A typical situation is a participant awaiting occupation of a more permanent suitable home after a hospital discharge. The daily MTA item is not an hourly personal-care item, permanent rent subsidy or a holiday.

SIL support workers: hourly codes and staffing needs

Table 1 gives standard SIL-related hourly and sleepover codes with prices changing by time of day. For example, supported independent living weekday daytime 01_801_0138_1_1 has a national maximum of $73.58/hour; Saturday 01_804_0138_1_1 is $103.54/hour. Different high-intensity and intensive and complex behaviour item families apply only when genuinely justified. The staff ratio, tasks and each participant's funded arrangement must be documented.

Why are STA, MTA and SIL not interchangeable?

STA has the specific short-term support purpose and 14-day limit in the schedule. MTA provides a temporary accommodation bridge, often while a permanent home is organised. SIL is about the support a person receives with daily living—not automatically the accommodation itself. A provider should select the funding category that actually matches the participant's approved arrangement instead of moving charges to whichever budget is available.

Common questions

Can I charge this just because a code appears in the schedule?

No. The support must meet the participant's disability-related need, applicable funding rules and the permitted claim type. The schedule tells you the price limits, not whether this individual participant can claim every listed item.

Are 2026–27 prices fixed for the whole year?

The schedule is effective 24 September 2026 but may be amended. Check the latest official version and the new claiming documents as they are published.
